SILK SCARF BIG

Castle Collection

Maria Eufrosyne loves art, tapestries and murals. Colour and pattern bring the cold, large castle to life. She often walks through the castle with her children and tells stories about the various ceiling paintings and frescoes. She loves almost every room. All except the Austrian Hall. Maria Eufrosyne thinks it breathes far too much war, power and death. In addition, she never liked Barthold, the artist who painted the ceiling. He was pompous and unpleasant and did not listen at all to her wishes regarding colour and choice of ornamentation. Perhaps that is why she brought in a much more unknown and responsive artist to paint the room for the hall. Just as she wished, he painted an ornate growing pattern in rusty and grey-blue colours inspired by her favourite plants. Soft and undulating. There is a fireplace in the room and in winter she usually has the room heated to sit and enjoy the mural and dream of summer in the castle garden.

The pattern is inspired by a 17th century fresco that was long hidden but is now coming to light. The painting is found in Room 166, the room of the Austrian Hall at Läckö Castle.
